wide-eyed i am wide awake.
greet the day with a nervous shake.
wrap my head in an anxious wind.
maybe one day i won't take nothing for granted.
in movement so studied and deliberate,
i round corners, trace borders, try to keep my chin up.
one foot infront the other.
sometimes that gets so hard to remember.
if there's a purpose we all share,
i hate to say i think i'd keep it to myself.
with things that i've forgotten, things that i've been looking for.
things i can't put easily in words.
i stop in to say hello,
and ask advice for when the summer air gets cold.
stumble on my words for a little while,
and try to greet the end of another year with a smile.
i will move the only way i know.
through the wind and rain, against the grain,
if i make it home.
well i promise i'll get better.
i'll work harder.
i'll sleep sounder.
i will think longer.
stand up straighter.
with a sharp eye, on steady land,
let me die with a compass in my hand.
i believe in a light, swift and revealing.
i believe in a dark that swallows whole.
there are ways to shake the hourglass it seems,
but still i'll meet them both someday i suppose.
